May is drawing to a close and soon we will start the rainy season. I know, nobody really likes that part of the year but without it we would be in quite a pinch for water. Lets try to make the best of it. Please suggest some ideas for making the rainy season a pleasant and fun time.

Last week your challenge was about pronunciation. It is not easy but it is important.

Linking words make the sound more fluid and smooth. The rule is:

When a word ends in a CONSONANT sounds and the next word begins with a VOWEL sound, they are linked. Please remember that this is pronunciation and not spelling. If a word ends in an ‘E’, but the ‘E’ does not make any sound, it does not count!! eg. MY NAME_IS MICHAEL.

VOWEL: a,e,i,o,u.

CONSONANT: b,c,d,f,g,h,k,l,m,n,p,q,r,s,t,v,w,x,y,z.

My name_is Michael.

His name_is_Antonio.

This_is_an_apple.

There_is_a large_orange hot_air balloon_in the sky.

The toys_in the store_are_all for sale_at_a discount.

Have you_ever_eaten_at_an_Indian restaurant?

My coffee_is cold. Could I have_a fresh cup?

The rain_in Spain falls mainly_on the plain.

Today I would like to ask you about requests with modal verbs. Which are more formal and which are more casual????

Can I borrow a pen, please?

Would you mind babysitting my children on Saturday?

Is it OK if I use your phone?

I was wondering if I could borrow some money.

Do you mind if I use your laptop for a minute?

Could you lend me a jacket, please?

Would it be alright it I compared our homework?

Would you mind it I borrowed your camera?

Good luck and see you again soon!
